Protecting, Developing and Benefiting from the Work of Visual Art

The National Gallery of Indonesia has existed as a cultural institution (art museum and art centre) in the field of visual arts since May 8, 1999. This institution plays an important role in expanding the Indonesian public’s appreciation of works of art through an agenda for the protection, development and exploitation of the visual arts in Indonesia.

The existence of the National Gallery of Indonesia provides an opportunity for students, art lovers and the general public to benefit from educative, cultural and recreational facilities. The significance of the National Gallery of Indonesia is enhanced by its collection of approximately 1,750 works of art.

The National Gallery of Indonesia is currently taking steps toward becoming the barometer for the development of the visual arts in Indonesia, while functioning as a facilitator for the development of the potential of young Indonesian artists domestically, regionally and internationally.
