The exhibitions presented by the National Gallery of Indonesia generally feature modern and contemporary art forms, such as paintings, sculptures, carvings, graphics, designs, ceramics, photography, architecture, art installations, new media works and  others from  Indonesia and other countries. The holding of exhibitions by the National Gallery of Indonesia entails the following: 

 

Permanent Exhibitions:

Presents various elements of the gallery’s collection of works by Indonesian and foreign artists on the basis of specific curatorial considerations periodically (every two years) on a rotating basis. Since 2007, the materials/works in the collection exhibitions have been based on the following 3 (three) curatorial concepts:

 

 

 

  • Chronological positioning in Indonesian art history
  • Themes; i.e. the Natural Environment
  • Works by foreign artists

Temporary Exhibitions:

Presents solo or joint exhibitions based on program or selection by curatorial team for set periods of time, ranging from 7 days to 1 month. These exhibitions are carried out by the National Gallery of Indonesia alone or in cooperation with private galleries and other art related institutions at a frequency of no less than 24 exhibitions/displays per year.

 

These temporary exhibitions include solo, joint and traveling displays.
